Drawing of Boris Johnson with make up on his face like the Joker. Created in ballpoint pen by James Mylne.

I recently completed this photo realistic ballpoint pen drawing of Boris Johnson as The Joker. It’s part of a small series of political drawings I created depicting world leaders for my solo exhibition at The Fitzrovia Gallery in December 2019 (more info here).

Below is a photo of me working on it in pen. I used coloured Bics for the make up. There’s a video showing the whole process further down the page.

The whole Brexit thing is a bit of a bad joke, but like the Joker from the films, I believe there is a sadistic side to him beneath the foolishness

It’s part of an artist’s job to capture historically relevant moments in the mood of the time whenever they can, and thanks to a little advise from my mate Will, this was a ‘no-brainer’. I finished it just as the The Joker movie was released last year and at the same time as the Brexit thing being further delayed.

When the artwork was included in a press release about the December Exhibition (by Lisa Baker Associates) on 11th October it was picked up by news wires and quickly went viral, many news websites covered it and some magazines also featured it (see below).

Then I stared hearing about the artwork being spotted on placards in anti Brexit protests in Scotland & London (below images, online article here).

The video below shows how the artwork was created below.

The original drawing along with the other political ones exhibited in December are sold but a limited edition of 50 prints was released of the “Joker Johnson”, you can order one below.
