The most amount of ballpoint drawing I have ever put into one artwork
With the relative easing of normal distractions (such as no impending exhibition deadlines), Lockdown in London did at least give me the opportunity to set myself some goals. I created this over the course of 4 months, totaling 469 hours!
I scoured some photography archives online and came across a rare photo of Steve McQueen, I then purchased an image license for it and got to work. The scale I was going for forced me to seriously scale up the old photo details within onto this massive drawing. The up close portrait might now be the most close up & detailed photo-realistic artwork ever created of the Hollywood star.
Other than to push myself the motivation was to have something large in scale that people can get up close to and inspect the ballpoint drawing style I use in a gallery/exhibition context.
It will be the main artwork in my upcoming solo exhibition at ArtCatto gallery (more info coming soon) in Portugal in September 2021. The artwork will not be for sale until the weeks leading up to the opening (currently TBC) and no prints of this are planned.
