This new original was a fun commission by private client who is a big fan of Steven Mcqueen and race cars in general. Luckily for me the client wanted me to include more of my creative expressive styles which was appreciated. this obvioulsy personalizes the artwork, making it more unique. It’s a bit of a combination between artwork approaches of mine that blended my Desktop series & Vintage Vogue artworks – so it’s part of my “Vintage Vogue Reworked” artworks.
The twist in this one was giving the ‘King of Cool’ a crown (obvioulsy not in the original photo). Whilst creating this I worked hard to build into the drawing a increased level of detail that was not really in the old original photo I worked from.
I went a step further after finishing the it by restoring a large antique frame that I then hand painted / customized for the artwork – you can see this process at the end of the video at bottom of this post.
A nice little surprise when I posted this artwork onto my Instagram account was when Steve McQueen’s grand daughter (Madison McQueen) commented on the artwork in Instagram (link here – see screenshot image below right).
